It is clear why Las Vegas is such a popular destination for the party-going visitor.

Las Vegas History

Las Vegas, meaning ‘The Meadows’, started off with a small number of inhabitants just over one hundred years ago, and was used as a water stop off for passing travellers. Due to its low lying land and proximity to the Colorado River, when the snow from the Rocky Mountains melted in the spring, it caused the river to flood. By late summer, due to little rainfall, the river would be greatly reduced and the land would dry out. With the development of Boulder city and the Hoover Dam, Las Vegas began its transformation into the neon spectacle of what we see today.

Boulder City

Located approximately twenty miles south east of the centre of the city of Las Vegas, Boulder city emerged with the development of the world famous Hoover Dam. Boulder city provided homes and amenities for the workers at the Hoover Dam. Due to the nature of the dam project, alcohol and gambling were strictly controlled within the city boundaries, to ensure that the workers were at their optimum for work at the immense structure.
